Si and C Isotopes in Presolar Silicon Carbide Grains From AGB Stars
نویسندگان
چکیده
We compare the Si and C isotopic data of presolar SiC grains with predictions of AGB star models computed with a wide range of input parameters The models con rm an AGB star origin for SiC grains of type mainstream Y and Z Cool bottom processing during the AGB phase is required to explain simultaneously the Si and C data for Z grains The Z grain data together with the new models indicate that the interstellar Si Si ratio was high at low metallicity relative to models of Galactic Chemical Evolution

On the stellar sources of presolar graphite
Primitive meteorites contain graphite spherules whose anomalous isotopic compositions indicate a stellar origin. The isolation of presolar graphite grains is difficult and they have been less well studied than presolar silicon carbide grains. While previous isotopic measurements have been made on graphite from the Murchison meteorite and mostly on low-density grains, a new separation of graphit...
متن کاملNanosims Studies of Presolar Graphite Grains: Are C-isotopic Ratios Grain-size- Dependent?
Introduction: After silicon carbide (SiC), graphite is the best studied presolar mineral. A wealth of information exists on the isotopic compositions of C and of many minor/trace elements in micrometer-sized grains [e.g., 1-5]. Presolar graphite grains exhibit large C-isotopic anomalies with C/C ratios between 2 and 7000. Although this range is compatible with what is observed for SiC [6, 7], t...
متن کاملExtinct technetium in silicon carbide stardust grains: implications for stellar nucleosynthesis.
The isotopic composition of ruthenium (Ru) in individual presolar silicon carbide (SiC) stardust grains bears the signature of s-process nucleosynthesis in asymptotic giant branch stars, plus an anomaly in 99Ru that is explained by the in situ decay of technetium isotope 99Tc in the grains. This finding, coupled with the observation of Tc spectral lines in certain stars, shows that the majority...
متن کاملPresolar graphite grains and their stellar origins: A review
Presolar grains are sub-micron to micron-sized stardust grains that are found in very primitive solar system materials. Laboratory measurements of presolar grains allow cosmochemists to understand the chemical and physical conditions in circumstellar environments, where the grains condensed. They provide important constraints for models of stellar nucleosynthesis and Galactic chemical evolution...
متن کاملIsotopic analysis of presolar graphite grains from Orgueil
We report the successful isolation and isotopic analysis of presolar graphite grains from the Orgueil CI chondrite. Isotopic measurements were made on seven density fractions, with grain sizes >1 lm: ORG1b (1.59–1.67 g cm ), 1c (1.67–1.75 g cm ), 1d (1.75– 1.92 g cm ), 1f (2.02–2.04 g cm ), 1g (2.04–2.12 g cm ), 1h (2.12–2.16 g cm ) and 1i (2.16–2.30 g cm ). We measured C, N, O, and Si isotopes...
